Contractors lightheartedly refer to Hakalau Place as "Wisteria Lane," the picture perfect suburban setting depicted in the popular TV series, "Desperate Housewives."

And they are pretty accurate in their description. The quiet cul-de-sac on the Hawaii Kai marina is much like the fictitious street - minus the drama. It's a place where neighbors greet neighbors as they glide by on paddleboards or kayaks.

According to Realtor Julie Coelho of East Oahu Realty, who is listing the home for $1,495,000 fee simple, marina frontage homes don't go on the market too often, and this 4-bedroom, 4-bath home is the epitome of island living.

"It's on a great little street and the house itself is cool, private and right on the water," says Coelho, who has been in the real estate business for 30 years. "The location is simply unbeatable."

And the home is beautiful - all 2,732 square feet of it. It was built for someone who believes that nature is an integral part of the good life. Relax on the deck in the early morning hours and you might spot a stingray or two frolicking beneath the surface, feeding on barnacles under the dock. Ducks are frequent visitors and the splash of large mullets leaping out of the water may nudge you from your state of nirvana.

"The deck is where folks want to just get comfortable and stay. It's like being in a different world," says Coelho. "It's designed for entertaining or just simply relaxing." And if the water beckons, simply hop into your kayak and head out for an ocean adventure or a shopping expedition at Koko Marina.

Maximizing both living space and location, an open floor plan featuring a large gourmet kitchen looks out toward the deck, marina and mountains. And there are no overhead cabinets in this kitchen for good reason. The rich cherry wood cabinets designed by Kailua's Hanan Katz, are specifically positioned to not interfere with the stunning view. The patio walls open up to bring the outside in, or inside out - whichever you prefer. A pass-thru in the kitchen allows you to enjoy a burger and cool drink outdoors on the counter after taking a dip in the pool.

And as if there wasn't enough water surrounding you already, the refreshing blue infinity pool seamlessly "empties" into the marina.

"Three years ago, this portion of the house was completely rebuilt from the foundation up," explains Coelho. That's when the pool was put in along with many of the renovations that modernized this home."

That includes piped in natural gas lines which power the hot water heater and appliances, including the outdoor kitchen.

Inside, quality workmanship and materials abound – including crema marble, coconut palm wood flooring and koala wood stairs.

"When the home was remodeled, the owners didn't skimp on quality or beauty," explains Coelho.

The main house has 3 bedrooms and 3 baths and a separate bonus room with laundry room feels more like a separate guest cottage offering direct access to the pool.

Each room has the luxury of its own bath, fabulously equipped with Jacuzzi tubs and wet-room style showers reinforcing a laid back tropical lifestyle.

Gentle cross breezes keep this home naturally cool whether you're enjoying the good life indoors or taking in the unique essence of life on the marina.
