Mediterranean villa meets British hunting lodge in this warm, expansive dining room. An eclectic mix of textures, colors, even time periods and ethnic origins are skillfully blended together to create an ambiance that says: relax, slow down, and savor some good food and conversation with friends. Focal point is the room’s rustic dining room table with eight chairs in two distinctive styles six leather on dark wood and two cream upholstery on maple. Matched vases in the style of early hurricane lamps, filled with colored pinecones, rub shoulders with contemporary glass and stemware. Gaily painted ceramic place settings echo the southern pottery displayed in a recessed hutch of dark antique wood. Here, too, you’ll find subtle references to the 19th century British infatuation with all things Oriental in the form of two sandalwood carved figures, apparently overseeing the meal’s progress. Counterpoint to the sleek, shiny marble flooring and faux-finished stone columns are a richly detailed Persian rug and brocade window coverings. Double-hung interior drapes simply need to be dropped into place, should a more intimate private ambiance be desired.
